ONCE UPON A TIME, after I had seen thirty third autumn of my life, a sweeping question hit my conscience – “How will every human being in the world become the happiest; that too, happiest forever?”

 

     To me, the question didn’t look foolish, instead it was sublime. However, I couldn’t find the answer. I tried a lot.

 

     Finally, through my inner consciousness, I began asking God Himself,
 

     “Oh! My beloved Almighty! I want to know, how will the entire human race in world, become the happiest forever?”
 

     I was not greatly surprised to listen to His voice in response; for, His voice always replies, whenever a seeker’s own voice is the sincerest.

 

     God smiled and counter asked, “But aren’t they already
happy?”
 

   “Sometimes they look so,” I said, “but actually they are not. They become happy for a thing now and then sad for another in the next moment. And they keep on doing this in perpetuity. I supplicate to know from you the secret of their eternal happiness.”
 

     “You have asked me the subtlest question”, God said.
 

     “Yes. Please resolve the same for me.”
 

    “But haven’t I already taught mankind the ways to eternal happiness?” God asked. “Whence, my supreme wisdom has been hidden from the men? Whence, my words and preaching are away from them? Hadn’t I always kept the treasure of virtuous books which are ever soaked in my great wisdom, open to all? Haven’t I really helped the mankind in attaining their eternal happiness? God asked further.

 

    “Yes, indeed you have; but people seem to have forgotten your message nowadays”, I apprehended.

 

   “Hmm... But in that case, the people can read my message again and again. Through books, it is omnipresent in writing”, wondered God.

 

   Impatience began to reveal in my voice, “But see! They unfortunately have happened to stop understanding your language. Most of them are disinclined to read your words. Even if a few of them would read, they’d do so only mechanically. And thus they have become deprived of the source nectar of their subtlest happiness”.

 

   “Hmm... .” God thought for a moment before saying this, “But I am bit surprised. My message was simple. How come they do not understand it, especially when it was about their own benefaction?”

 

  I replied sadly, “It may be because they have stopped appreciating the simple things.”

 

    God looked at my face in astonishment. He remained silent only.

 

   “O My beloved Lord, See!” said I, “You know everything. You can do the miracles. Secure please, their happiness forever.”

 

   God replied, “I have already crafted the human-beings to become superior of all the creatures; and thus I have already manifested them to become the happiest. I wonder what new I can make with or teach my offspring now.”

 

    “May be then, the people need to be reminded of your great message, by yourself once again”, said I.

 

    God smiled on my wish and said, “Then, you become my instrument and remind them that.”

 

  God’s reply had indeed startled me. I asked in wonderment, “Me! Why so?”

 

    “Because, if people have stopped understanding my language, they will ofcourse understand your language”, God revealed His mind.

 

    In sudden ecstasy of the new job entrusted, words couldn’t come out of my throat.

 

    “Do you understand my language?” God asked.

 

   “Yes, I am always keen. I am always curious to hear more from you?” I replied gleefully.

 

    “Indeed you are a curious mind. Granted here by me is that, you will understand my language always,” He said with a cheerful alacrity.

 

  Oh! For the newly received boon from God, my happiness knew no bounds.

 

     God continued saying in His fatherly authoritative voice, “O My son! Here I assign to you this responsibility. Put your life in translating my language into the language of men. Tell them that if they are also the curious minds, how easy it becomes. Convey to them my wish that the exclusive purpose of their lives is to become happy forever; and nothing else. The men should never forget that this is only why I have crafted them to
be superior.”

 

     My eyes were getting moist.

 

   “Do you know”, God asked me, “that why I say all this to you?”

 

   Probably I knew the answer but couldn’t word it in the ecstasy of the moment.

 

     God did it for me.

 

   He said, “It’s because I have blessed you for understanding my language; and through you, the countless of others will also understand.”

 

    God continued in His sweet voice, “In this way here I have also secured the reason of your individual eternal happiness, through the eternal happiness of your beneficiaries. Let this alone be my greatest boon for you.”

 

    I fell in reverent prostration at the feet of Almighty. It was my own first sign of eternal happiness. He touched my head in affection, smiled and disappeared.

     In the boon of God, I had found the purpose of my life. It was one and the same with both; the process as well as the purpose of my work. It was all about the happiness of all men; through the happiness of my own.

 

     Thence started my work.
